Life Is Like An Orchestra (How To Attack Life)

Life Is Like An Orchestra (How To Attack Life)
Concerthall of Amsterdam

The other day I went to a classical music concert. I've always wanted to do that. I put it on my to-do list for gaining XP points in my spiritual pillar: visiting a classical music concert by myself (+1 xp).

I visited The 4 Seasons by Vivaldi. There were about 12 people on stage. 11 playing an instrument, and the conductor.

The conductor was defining which instrument should predominate. He's setting the flow and tone of the composition. He's jumping, swinging, dancing, and giving orders at the same time. It was amazing to see.

And as I sat there, in awe of the music that blew me away, it suddenly hit me.

Life is exactly like a classical music composition.

The different instruments are your actions, habits, and skills.
The conductor is you.

You decide which instrument predominates. You decide where the focus and attention go.

There are periods in your life when you should focus on your health. You spend a lot of time in the gym and the kitchen. And that's great!

But too much of that, and you get stuck in that mode. Your life becomes the gym. And you'll miss out on so much more that life can offer.

Focusing on your career or business for a time will drastically improve your life. But too much of it and you end up depressed and alone.

You are the conductor

I am the captain of my soul the master of my fate - William Ernest Henley

The goal of life is to experience it to the fullest. A classical music composition is at its best when all the instruments are played perfectly. At the right time, at the right tone.

Your life is at its best when you focus on the right things at the right time. And you are in charge of that!

You decide where your focus goes. You decide where your energy flows.

The game plan

There is so much that life has to offer. But you'll miss out on most of it if you aren't inentional.

That's why you need a game plan:

game plan: A basic idea of how you will attack life.

Focus on the 4 pillars of life:

  1. Health
  2. Wealth
  3. Relationships
  4. Spirituality

Get the foundation right: Be fit. Be calm. Don't spend money on stupid shit. Practice your social skills.

And from that place, start having fun with life itself.
